In regards to Cycle 1: I found the results easy to interpret and felt the graphs accurately represented visually the concepts being presented. I followed the conclusions easily and agreed with the suggestion that the variables which caused the study to be inconclusive could be attributed to the nature of the specific online component used. I believe a future duplication study utilizing a better-observed environment could eliminate variables such as were discussed in the Conclusions section. I would also like to see the data of all students plotted as in figure 5: Comparison Between Written and Tech Averages, to eliminate outliers and see trends in mean, median and mode. Finally, I'd like to see a future study expanded to a student population of 100-200 for more accurate trend observation.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Cycle 2: I found results, graphs and conclusions similarly easy to follow and understand, as in Cycle 1. I would also like to see future studies expanded to larger populations and to see all data graphed in it's entirety.
My own final conclusion after viewing this is that an earlier study should be done utilizing flash-card-style single note testing as a way to carefully control and understand student response. The current study may assume too high a level of reading ability from the students in the first place, and certain outlying scores could be eliminated by applying this earlier test to determine candidacy.
